Job title: News Assistant (The Wall Street Journal/Asian Wall Street Journal)
Location: Beijing
Job Responsibilities:
The assistant will be expected to monitor Chinese-language newspapers, web sites and television and radio broadcasts to keep abreast of developments in China, especially in corporate news, markets, politics and social trends. The assistant will be responsible for identifying people to interview for stories, finding them and setting up interviews under tight deadline pressure. The assistant will also be responsible for alerting reporters to upcoming events and helping organize accreditation, travel, etc., as well as occasionally accompanying reporters on reporting trips.
Requirements:
q Bachelor's degree or above.
q Essential skills include excellent command of written and spoken English and fluency in Mandarin.
q Applicants should have strong journalistic instincts, be able to work in
a high-pressure environment, meet tight deadlines and handle a wide variety of topics.
q Interest in and knowledge of current events in China is essential, along with a working knowledge of the Internet.
q Relevant experience in news wires, newspapers, magazines or books and/or experience in the financial services industry are desirable.
